A startup that enables marketers to create 3D photos and videos of their products has secured $6 million in fresh funds.

Paris-based Omi, which was founded in 2020, has developed a platform that can create photo-realistic images of products in minutes, cutting back on the time and expense required for product photo shoots. The platform can be used by beginners, and images can be customized and adapted for different use cases, from e-commerce marketing to establishing brand awareness in the metaverse.

Hugo Borensztein, the Omi chief executive and cofounder, said the startup was responding to the “current content creation challenges” faced by brands in the hope of making it easier for them to integrate with Web3 platforms.

The metaverse has created a shift in product marketing, as more companies scramble to create brand awareness that resonates with millennial and Gen-Z audiences, and build engagement among their consumer base.

Omi, which counts the likes of Nestle and Manucurist among its clients, raised the funds in a seed round led by UK investor Dawn Capital. The startup hopes to use the cash to develop a way for brands to distribute content in NFTs so they can better market their products in Web3.

Borensztein said Omi’s product will be accessible to “anyone with an internet connection, regardless of their hardware configuration.”

The startup generates all of its revenue from user subscriptions, which are token-based. Users can exchange these credits to create different types of assets, from photos and videos, to content in AR — across a range of resolutions and formats.

Additional investment came from founder and CEO of Founders Future, Marc Ménasé, who led the previous round, Deezer founder Daniel Marhely, and Voodoo cofounder Laurent Ritter, among others.

Omi will also use the fresh funds to hire a research team to bulk up its product development as its looks to expand in the UK and Southern Europe. Its focus in the coming year will be to deploy Omi in AR through partnerships with Meta, Shopify, Snap, and TikTok, and eventually list its 3D product assets in VR in metaverse stores by next year.
