  • Xentral, a platform for small and medium businesses, raised a $75 million Series B.
  • The funding came from Tiger Global and Meritech, joining existing investors like Sequoia Capital.
  • Xentral exclusively gave Insider the 24-slide pitch deck it used to raise the funds.

This is a translation of an article that originally appeared on Business Insider Deutschland on March 16, 2022. It has been edited.

The software startup Xentral has an impressive funding history. After its founding as a bootstrapped startup, it got its first outside investment from Frank Thelen, an investor who appears on the German version of the reality-TV franchise “Dragons’ Den.”

Then came Christian Reber, the founder of Pitch, and the Silicon Valley giant Sequoia Capital. Last August, the top venture-capital firm Tiger Global joined the list of investors; Tiger and Meritech Capital funded a $75 million Series B for Xentral.

Xentral has developed an enterprise-resource-planning platform to help companies manage all the processes they need to carry out day-to-day business operations like logistics, accounting, human resources, purchasing, and distribution.

The startup says it has more than 1,000 customers — mostly companies with 10 to 100 employees.

It was founded by Claudia and Benedikt Sauter. “We want to be the software that others use to build their business,” Benedikt Sauter told Insider in an interview.

He added he was initially not focused on VC money.

“I just ignored emails from investors for a long time,” he said. “We wanted to get our stuff right first and not be disturbed.”

Then, he said, he and his wife realized that “there comes a point when you can achieve more with capital.”

This is the 24-slide pitch deck the couple used to raise funding from some of the biggest VC funds.
