London-based Superscript, which was previously known as Digitial Risks when it was founded in 2015, wants to become a leader in the global small- and medium-enterprise (SME) insurance market. The SME sector makes up around a third of commercial insurance premiums, according to consulting group BCG, in a market worth close to $1 trillion globally.

Over the past five years, Superscript has built a sizeable book of corporate partners, including Starling Bank, Crowdcube, and fitness and beauty marketplace Urban.
“Our approach looks at every insurance cover from a new perspective,” said CEO Cameron Shearer. “Rather than asking what risks we’re willing to cover, we ask what businesses need and then find the solution.”
