A startup that enables travelers to book the entirety of their trip from a single app has raised $5 million in seed funding from Project A and Cavalry Ventures.
Origin, which was founded in 2019, is the brainchild of Eli Bressert, previously head of Siri platform science at Apple, and Tamar van de Paal, who used to head up marketing for Google’s operations in the Netherlands, Belgium, and Luxembourg.
The founders want to disrupt what they see as a complacent industry, which forces holidaymakers to choose between expensive traditional travel agents and the risks that come with organizing everything from the flights to the Airbnb yourself.
Origin’s paid membership service connects users directly with local travel planners, enabling them to work together to figure out what they’re looking for in a trip abroad, and find the best ways to fly, rent accommodation, and dine out.
“We created Origin because modern travel has become extremely complicated and we believe that transformational travel allows people to live out their dreams,” said Bessert.
“The barrier of travel planning, the time it consumes, and insider knowledge on destinations are holding people back from maximizing their travel experiences. Origin removes all those obstacles and makes the end-to-end experience a breeze.”
